What causes Dry Eyes? 
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is a common eye condition that occurs when the meibomian glands, which are tiny oil-producing glands located in the eyelids, do not function properly. These glands play a crucial role in producing the oily layer of the tear film that helps prevent the evaporation of tears and maintains the stability of the tear film on the eye's surface.

 
When the meibomian glands are dysfunctional, the quality and quantity of the oil they produce may be insufficient. This can lead to an unstable tear film, increased evaporation of tears, and ultimately result in dry eyes. Additionally, MGD can cause other symptoms such as irritation, redness, a gritty sensation, and blurred vision. 

Several factors can contribute to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, including age, hormonal changes, environmental factors, and certain medical conditions. Management of MGD often involves warm compresses, lid hygiene, and, in some cases, the use of lubricating eye drops. In more severe cases, medical interventions or procedures may be recommended to address the dysfunction and improve the health of the meibomian glands.
